This week starts the scheduled events of the spectacular Carnival of Torrevieja, there are lots of great entertainment put on for this time of year and the Spanish love to participate in the celebration.

The official start of the carnival began on Saturday 27th with the coronation of the Queens of the carnival. However this week and next there are many events around the town for everyone to enjoy.

This Friday at the Municipal Auditorium there is the Drag Queen show, tickets are on sale at the boxoffice and the show starts at 20.30h

In the Plaza de La Ermita on Saturday at 10h, we have family celebrations with a paella, gifts, childrens entertainment, bouncy castles, facepainting plus much more.

On the Thursday the 8th the older generation are doing a carnival dance at the Centro Municipal de Ocio, this is free until full capacity is acheived and starts at 18h

Saturday the 10th February we have the Chiigotas contest, these are singers who sing funny songs about the carnival, which is a very spanish thing, this is at the Municipal Auditorium, starting at 20.30h and again tickets can be bought at the box office.

Sunday we have the fancy dress contest at the Teatro municipal and this starts at 16.00h, again tickets on sale at the box office

Friday 16th the little ones have their carnival dance and this is being held at Habaneras Commerical Centre at 18.00h

The Carnival events conclude on Saturday 17th February with the Carnival Night, this truly is a great evening and lovely to watch. Many spanish dress up to watch the carnaval itself even if they are not actually participating. The night begins at 21.00h and starts at The plaza of Maria Asuncion, goes along Ramon Gallud and finishes at Patricio Perez. If you have never been to the Carnival it really is a great sight and a real family event.
