A wave of Blue for the Orihuela Costa
It has recently been reported in the Spanish local press that the Community of Valencia has been awarded a incredible twenty one flags, with the Orihuela Costa receiving nine of them.
These nine Blue Flags are for our beaches and we have also obtained two Blue Flags for our port deportivo (holding private boats).
The news was announced by Luisa Boné, the councillor for the beaches of Orihuela, at a recent press conference.
We had held eight blue flags for the beaches, but this year we have since gained another, which is great news for us living here on the Orihuela Costa and for tourism in general.
Some of the beaches that were given the award are: Cala Capitan – Cabo Roig, La Caleta – Cabo Roig, Aquamarina, Cala Bosque – La Zenia and Punta Prima. The awarded ports were those of Dehesa de Campoamor and Cabo Roig.
Slightly north of here have also received a Blue Flag La Raqueta at Guardamar Del Segura and slightly south at Pilar Del Horadada some of their beaches, Mil Palmeras, Jesuitas and Conde and Higuericas.
The Blue Flags are an annual award for beaches and ports following set criteria, those being the bathing water quality at the locations, accessibility, environmental information and education, environmental and safety management and the services and facilities offered.
