Easter Celebrations/Semana Santa

Easter Celebrations/Semana Santa
20 Mar

Easter celebrations in Spain are passionately honoured.

They start on Palm Sunday (the Sunday before Easter) and continue through until Easter Sunday.

The Spanish do not go overboard with Easter eggs and the Easter bunny, but celebrate in a more Christian way.

The municipality's main celebrations are in Orihuela City, but a daily bus is provided from the Orihuela Costa, for which you need to call to reserve a place.

This year within their celebrations they are offering daytime guided tourist routes around the city, in both English and Spanish.

Starting next week there are routes to see both the Arts and the Relics of the City, along with a route of one of the city's famous poets, Miguel Hernandez. On Thursday 29th March there will be concerts being held outside national monuments of the city by Wind and String Instruments.

The evening processions of Semana Santa are indeed a great spectacle, with the procession of the Cabellero Cubierto (covered gentleman), the singers of The Passion and the beloved Diablesa (the she-devil statue) through the city's streets.

So with a full agenda and a bus service to take you there, take a trip to Orihuela and join the festivities with an abundance of Spanish culture.
