New Fuel Labelling
This month we see the introduction of the New European Fuel Labeling.
This new labelling comes into effect on October 12th and creates a new system that will help drivers choose the fuel that is most compatible with their vehicle.
The new standard requires both EU members and EEA states to implement the new fuel identification label by the fuel cap of all new cars, motorcycles, heavy vehicles as well as at the fuel pumps at petrol stations.
The format has been standardized ensuring the clear identification of the various types of fuel, available in the European market.
The new labels are in a square format for diesel fuel, offering B7, B10 and XTL
A circle format for gasoline, offering E5, E10 and E85
Finally gaseous fuels have a diamond format with the following options: LPG for liquefied petroleum gas, LNG for liquefied natural gas and
CNG for compressed natural gas
To assist consumers, dealerships and petrol stations understand the new labelling, further information can be located at www.fuel-identifiers.eu
Do not panic, majority of petrol stations appear to be keeping labels similar to the old ones with the addition of the new codes. Also petrol stations already implementing the new codes are happy to advise.
